THE LIT CLUB combines the healing power of cannabis with the magic of storytelling.

We are a literary salon, creative community, and event series. We create safe, empathetic, artistic spaces that celebrate women and non-binary authors while fostering community and normalizing cannabis.

The Lit Club supports harm reduction efforts, conscious cannabis and wine brands, indie bookstores, emerging artists, and social justice organizations like Yoga Roots on Location, Pop-Hop Books and Print, The Salt Eaters Books, and The Prison Book Program. We have been sponsored by Garden Society, Pure Beauty, Her Highness NYC, Nasha, and Gelato.

The LIT CLUB Mission:

  • UPLIFT MARGINALIZED VOICES: center and celebrate the voices of women and nonbinary storytellers

  • NORMALIZE CANNABIS: consume cannabis consciously as a tool for creativity, healing, and play

  • HEAL AND CREATE IN COMMUNITY: provide a consistent space for book and cannabis lovers to grow and connect

The LIT CLUB Vision:

Lit Club chapters in every legal weed city in the world, building a global community of readers, artists, creatives, and cannabis lovers! The Lit Club expands into the world of wine, opening up new collaborations and possibilities.

MY LIT CLUB STORY:

Hannah eko

Favorite Weed Strains:

Mother’s Milk,

Jungle Cake,

Forbidden Fruit

A lot of seemingly disparate and personal experiences/loves/desires inspired me to create The Lit Club:

  • The time I was in this undercover art counseling program in elementary school called “The Lucky Lions Club.”

  • How much I love a good dinner and book party, niche salons, seventies style conscious raising groups, and the beauty of chilled out sesh.

  • The fact that I am an ambivert and like to party but also like to talk deep

  • How much healing and connection this crazy ass world needs

  • The many small, yet mighty groups I have found myself in:

peer counselor camp in junior high (we were called P.A.L.S.), the girls Bible Study I was in college where our born-again-virgin leader suggested we add The Vagina Dialogues to our reading list, the monthly Friday Night Potluck I attended with an assortment of antiracist Portland hippies and free-spirits when I was stationed in Portland, Oregon as a junior officer, my yoga teacher training under Felicia Savage Friedman in Pittsburgh, PA where we taught emotional awareness in juvenile detention centers.

Sure, some of the groups I lurked around turned out to be like baby cults, but most of them have enriched my life immeasurably and I love the power and synergy of people coming together to do something that does not include murder or scaling the Capitol walls.

So, during the pandemic, I decided to actually take action on a dream that had been simmering in my heart for a good minute.

I love books and weed. Truly. I am a lifelong reader and sober stoner turned cannabis nerd whose weed journey started almost immediately after I left the Coast Guard in 2015. (I didn’t run out an smoke a blunt my first day of freedom, but you get it...)

I love how weed is a healer, a creative tool, and a playmate all at the same time. I love how much she inspires people to share, to tend to this earth, to do good.

I love how books are agents of empathy, healers of civilizations, disruptors of evil, and portals of delight. I love that even with TikTok and Instagram and ChatGPT there are people who still read.

And so, I brought two of my greatest loves together to coexist in bliss and I’d be honored if you’d be my guest.

The Lit Club kick things off with our signature event:

THE LIT CLUB

A CANNABIS INSPIRED LITERARY SALON

We’re lovers of words and weed who come together to grow and connect with conscious consumption and books by women and nonbinary authors. Our conversations are deep, fun, empathetic, and smart. And our vibes are immaculate.

Our lovely budtender sponsor for The Lit Club Salon is women-owned cannabis brand Garden Society. Our official booktender is independent LA bookstore Pop Hop Books and Print.

The Lit Club Salon is held every first Sunday in a secret Lincoln Height living room art space from 4-6 pm.

THE LIT LAB

is an online extension of The Lit Club bringing the same creative, grassroots energy to the virtual space.

It’s designed as an interactive hub where writers and creative human beings come together to learn, share, heal, and hone their craft.

The digital format allows guests to join from anywhere, fostering a diverse and dynamic community of artists, creatives, storytellers, and cannabis lovers.

PAST LIT CLUB EXPERIENCES:

FLOWER HOUR: A WRITERS’ CAFE AND COWORKING SPACE

Flower Hour is a weekly writers' café and coworking space all rolled into one. Artsy, relaxed, flexible yet regular.

Designed for cannabis-positive artists, writers, and creatives, Flower Hour offers a nurturing environment where ideas flourish, writing prompts are explored, and connections are made.

I hosted forty sessions of Flower Hour across a 10-month, October 2023 to July 2024 run at The Artist Tree in West Hollywood. Every Wednesday from 12-4 pm. I really appreciate the team at The Artist Tree and how inspiring this space was to create in on a regular basis. People from all walks of life came to Flower Hour to work, journal, write, color, daydream, network, have a self-care date, or sometimes just to get out of their usual routine—and I am thankful for every last one of them (though I must give a special “rosy” shout out to my Flower Hour regulars Donita and Madison, you guys are the best.)

LEGALIZE LIT :

AN ELEVATED BOOK FAIR

Legalize Lit takes the traditional book fair and gives it a delightful twist. Think the Scholastic Bookfair meeting your favorite weed party. Legalize Lit is a cannabis-infused book fair where cannabis products and weed strains are paired with banned books.

Like pairing Fight Club with a dab of a bodyhigh indica.

Or I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings with a relaxed sativa ginger tea.

I hosted a mini Legalize Lit at WYLLOW, a WOC owned cannabis dispensary on June 22nd, 2024. We celebrated legendary Los Angeles sci-fi writer Octavia Butler. For this one, I chose three of her books and paired them with three cannabis products stocked at WYIIOW. Thank you to my brother and sister who came all the way from the SGV to attend (with our very excited pit bull, Kovu). Thank you to the WYIIOW customers who were receptive to learning about the connections between weed and words on a random Saturday afternoon.

PUFF PUFF : THE MAGAZINE AND INNER TEEN GIRL HEALING PORTAL

Puff Puff Magazine is a the irreverent yet tender magazine and event series dedicated to the rebellious spirit of your inner teen girl. It’s a space where literary women and non-binary writers and readers revisit the pop culture that shaped us, laugh at our awkward phases, heal our relationship to weed and words, and find space to follow our dreams.

The launch of Puff Puff Magazine was a gorgeous day, hosted at WYIIOW on August 19th, 2023. Our magazine contains the work of 2 visual and 2 literary artists. There was a beautiful reading by LA writer (and my dear friend) Tanya Shirazi-Galvez. A curated “puff puff” bar (pre-rolls plus African donuts). LA independent bookstores The Ripped Bodice and Octavia’s Bookshelf sold amazing books—all written by women or nonbinary authors. Cannabis brands Queen Mary, Cannakits, and Diahni brought their deliciousness. Our gift bags were generously sponsored by Gelato, Garden Society, and OMI Bodycare. Puff Puff magazine even won a Design Award :)
