The Lit Club is a creative oasis where literature, healing, and cannabis converge in a series of playfully sophisticated events.
We are a literary salon, creative community, and event series.
At The Lit Club, we embrace the power of healing, women and non-binary writers, and intentional cannabis use to explore our deepest truths, create authentic connections, and have some fun.
The Lit Club supports harm reduction efforts, conscious cannabis and wine brands, indie bookstores, emerging artists, and social justice organizations like Yoga Roots on Location, Pop-Hop Books and Print, The Salt Eaters Books, and The Prison Book Program. We have been sponsored by Garden Society, Pure Beauty, Her Highness NYC, Nasha, and Gelato.
The Lit Club mission:
PEACE. Cultivate a creative community dedicated to holistic recovery, radical joy, and wellness
POWER. Amplify the stories and voices of women and non-binary writers, storytellers, and artists
PLEASURE. De-stigmatize cannabis and plant medicine by offering support and education for conscious consumption
The Lit Club stands tall on three pillars of co-creation and co-evolution: art, healing, and pleasure justice.
Healing Injustice
Increase in social isolation: research published in the journal of Psychological Science found that loneliness can increase the risk of depression and anxiety, with lonely people being two to three times more likely to experience mental health problems
Uptick in mental health issues: the CDC noted a sharp rise in reported symptoms of anxiety and depression disorders, with the prevalence of these symptoms tripling during the pandemic compared to before
Healing Justice
Lit Club Style
Bridge community support through regular meet-ups: a study published in Social Science and Medicine found that community engagement significantly improves mental health outcomes
Use writing, conversation, and yoga as tools for creative renewal, understanding, and healing: studies including those published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, show that expressive writing can lead to reduced symptoms of PTSD and depression. A study published in the journal Health Psychology Review found that participants who engaged in a regular yoga practice reported a 40% reduction in stress
Art Injustice
Undervaluing women’s literary work and pay gaps: a study from BookNet Canada (2020) revealed that readers perceive male authors’ literary work as more “serious” or “important” even when the content was similar. Women in the publishing industry make 15% less than men and data from the Authors Guild shows that women authors earn less than men from their writing
Less literary recognition for women: a VIDA Count Report (2020) found that men were more likely to be reviewed in major literary outlets, for example, 74% of the books reviewed by The New York Times Review of Books were written by men
Art Justice
Lit Club Style
Create space for thoughtful critique and celebration of women’s literary work and promote this work through conscious, community-driven marketing: challenge the narrative that women’s writing is “less serious” and worthy of study. Ensure women and non-binary voices are amplified, read, bought, and valued by all
Value women’s literary work: center women and non-binary authors in all Lit Club literary salons, features, events, and discussions, providing women writers with the visibility they often lack in mainstream media
Pleasure Injustice
Stigma, shame, and cannabis use: a survey conducted by CannaSafe in 2018 reported that 65% of cannabis users felt that society views them negatively. A 2020 survey by New Frontier Data found that 45% of women reported fear of judgement as a major barrier to exploring cannabis
Lack of safe & inclusive spaces for psychedelic exploration: a review published in a Psychopharmacology journal reported that over 80% of psychedelic study participants were white, which limits the understanding of potential therapeutic benefits for marginalized communities
Pleasure Justice
Lit Club Style
De-stigmatize adult use of cannabis: by promoting intentional, educational, and conscious use of cannabis for creativity and holistic self-care, The Lit Club breaks the cycle of shame, inspires cannabis empowerment, and supports harm reduction
Provide a space for holistic health practices and play: by integrating holistic health practices such as mindfulness and stress-relief via yoga, conscious cannabis use, and conversation, The Lit Club enhances personal pleasure and challenges systemic barriers to joy and fulfillment.
The Lit Club Story
I’m Hannah Eko, lifelong writer, ex-Coast Guard officer, spiritual stoner, and founder of The Lit Club.
Yes, I fully admit it—The Lit Club started as a high idea.
One evening, during my newbie smoking days, my journal became a portal to words I’d previously not had the capacity to explore. I had long suffered from intense writer’s anxiety, but with cannabis and a journal, my inner world calmed down. I wrote with peace.
Books have been my friends since I was a seven year old earning pizza parties for number of books read. Weed has helped me heal through complex trauma and connected me with an amazing, generous community.
I wanted to share the sacred synergy of two of my greatest loves and create experiences where weed and words were muse, medicine, and magic.
During the wild days of the pandemic lockdown, I started a monthly virtual weed and writing workshop called Women, Writing, Weed & Wine with friends.
We discussed books like Raven Leilani’s Luster and authors from James Baldwin to Banana Yoshimoto. We wrote love letters to our melancholy, our anxiety, our dread, our cheer, our despair. We had the honor of having Deesha Philyaw guest teach about setting creative boundaries and Bowie Rowan teach a personal instruction manual for love.
On April 20, 2023, Women, Writing, Weed & Wine held its first IRL sold-out event at The Salt Eaters Bookshop, a black-woman owned independent bookstore in Leimert Park.
Finally, the Lit Club was out in the world—a literary sanctuary and femme-led oasis blending weed, words, healing, and pleasure.
Here, we defy censorship, build creative community, give back through our pleasure, and uplift marginalized voices. We celebrate the power of stories, healing, and the magic of the cannabis plant. Because life is too short and too beautiful not to. All Lit Club events are for adults 21+.
We kick things off with our exclusively inclusive signature event:

A hub where all genres are welcome and appreciated, where literary classics meet modern masterpieces, paired with tender, smart, and fun conversation. The Lit Club Salon is a safe haven for deep dives into good books and a space to share your own literary creations.
Our lovely budtender sponsor for The Lit Club Salon is women-owned cannabis brand Garden Society. Our official booktender is independent LA bookstore Pop Hop Books and Print.
The Lit Club Salon is held every first Sunday in a secret Los Angeles living room art space from 4-6 pm.
